How to Know if Your Plant Needs Repotting
Repotting isn’t just about giving your plant a new home, it’s essential for keeping them healthy and thriving. Over time, soil becomes compacted, nutrients are depleted, and roots outgrow their space.
But how do you know when it’s time to repot? Watch for these signs:
1. Roots are escaping
If you see roots coming out of the drainage holes, circling the surface, or lifting the plant out of the pot then it’s time.
2. Water drains too quickly
If the water runs straight through without soaking in, your plant is likely root-bound and needs fresh soil.
3. Yellowing leaves or stunted growth
A lack of nutrients and space can result in poor health. If your plant isn't growing like it used to, consider upgrading the pot.
4. The pot is cracked or distorted
Especially with terracotta pots, strong root systems can cause cracking or bulging over time.
When is the best time to repot?
Spring and early summer are ideal. Your plant is entering its growing season and will recover quickly from the stress of repotting.
