Overview

Monstera deliciosa is a much-loved statement houseplant known for its dramatic, split leaves. Native to tropical Central America, it grows vigorously indoors and brings a lush, contemporary feel to any space.

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which encourages larger leaves and deeper fenestrations. It will cope with lower light but growth may slow and leaves stay smaller.

Water

Water thoroughly, then allow excess to drain away. Let the top layer of compost dry out before watering again to prevent root rot.

Humidity & Temperature

Prefers warm temperatures between 18–26°C and benefits from added humidity. Occasional misting or placing near other plants can help.

Soil & Potting

Use a chunky, well-draining houseplant mix with bark or perlite added. Repot every couple of years as roots fill the pot.

Feeding

Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Pause feeding through winter.

Pruning & Maintenance

Trim leggy growth or damaged leaves to maintain shape. Support with a moss pole as it matures and begins to climb.
